Since 1986, the Ahrensburg Youth Orchestra Support Association and the Ahrensburg city administration are organising the Internation Chamber Orchestra Festival Ahrensburg, for which several guest orchestras are invited to Ahrensburg where they rehearse and give concerts together.
During this event, which takes place every two years, the guests are accommodated in private quarters, normally in families of association members, and have thus the opportunity to closely get to know German every-day life. Additionally, the support association offers social activities such as sight-seeing trips to Hamburg or Lübeck as well as a party, during which the young musicians can get acquainted with the other guests both musically and personally.
